This is a precautionary measure. You can’t pay for purchases using third-party services? It’s for our own good.

But now, Apple had to abandon several restrictions and, at the same time, increase the level of protection. In iOS 14, Apple significantly updated its privacy settings: it has become more difficult for apps to track online activity, and users have more data available for analysis.

Privacy in iOS 14: What’s the news?

1. Approximate location

Previously, when granting temporary or permanent access to a location, the app received the user’s exact address. In iOS 14, you can choose a particular location within a specific area.

This is important for some applications, such as weather or local news, and the user’s exact location is not required. This way, the new feature helps you keep your movements private.

To start using the feature, you need to open the “Privacy” tab in the “Settings” and select “Location.” Then click on the desired app and disable “Exact location.”

An orange indicator lights up in the upper left corner of the screen if the app is currently accessing the microphone, and a green indicator appears if the camera is turned on.

3. Restricting access to photos in the library

Users can now grant apps access only to certain photos in the library. This feature allows users to store personal photos on their iPhone without fear for their privacy. Previously, apps received access to your complete library, which was not safe at all.

However, when the app requests permission to access the photo library in iOS 14, you need to click “Select photos” in the pop-up window and select the desired images. All other images will be closed to the app.
