Google Play Games App for PC Works Right Now

Google has started wider beta testing of the Google Play Games service, which allows users to run Android games on a PC. Now several new countries have joined the pool of “beta testers”: the USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore. Previously, the service was available in Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia, and Thailand.

Google has launched a closed beta testing of the Google Play Games application for Windows, which is designed to run Android games on a PC. Currently, only users from Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan can take part in the testing. In addition, a website with detailed information for game developers has become available.

For Google Play Games to work, a user will need a computer running Windows 10, 10GB of free disk space, 8GB of RAM and a more or less sane video card.

“Players can easily search, download and play their favorite mobile games on a PC, taking advantage of large screens with the ability to enter data using the mouse and keyboard,” said Arjun Dayal, manager of Google Play Games. “You will no longer lose your progress or achievements when switching between devices, because everything works through your Google Play Games profile!”

The progress made in the games available in Google Play Games on the computer will be synchronized via the cloud with mobile devices and vice versa. Now there are 85 games in the library of the service, their number will gradually grow.

To install the application, the company recommends having the following system:

  • Windows 10 version 2004.
  • Solid-state drive (SSD).
  • Gaming graphics processor.
  • 8 logical CPU cores.
  • 8GB of RAM.
  • 20GB of free space.
  • Windows administrator account.
  • Hardware virtualization enabled.
  • A compatible computer with the appropriate configuration.

Recall that Google announced the release of the native app Play Games for Windows as part of the annual awards ceremony The Game Awards 2021. At the same time, it is still unknown what technology the company decided to use to launch Android games on a PC. It is only known that Google Play Games does not use the Windows Subsystem for Android, which appeared in Windows 11.
